Brown or Black Belt testing is one of the most challenging yet amazing things that a karateke can ever do. It is not easy and sometimes people not only don't pass a test, but they also don't even complete a test. The test is designed to challenge the students physically, mentally, and spiritually. For that reason it pushes the student to their limit and beyond.
Here is the all the information that you need to know.
Brown and Black Belt Grading is held in a formal format. It observes the Okinawan Etiquette that is expected at all formal gradings, regardless of panel members or location. The following information is to help you prepare for the exam.
When: 03/03/2018 9:00 am. Where: Goju-Ryu Karate of Selah, 103 E. Naches Ave Selah, WA 98942 Length: Plan for a 3 hour grading plus a 1 hour deliberation, although this may be shorter or longer. Who can Watch: Anyone can watch, but since space is limited please do not bring large groups of people. What to bring: Water for the student. Food and drink for the spectators is ok.
Before you Come:
All applications for grading must be turned in prior to grading with grading fees.
All applicants must be current with their IOGKF membership.
All applications must have a recommendation signature from an eligible black belt sponsor.
Written examinations will be given just before the exam begins. The night before: Please drink lots of water and eat lots of carbohydrates. Get lots of sleep.
No Video Will be allowed
No Flash Cameras will be allowed
Cell Phones must be silenced or turned off
Talking must be kept to a minimum (In Okinawa, no talking is allowed and results in failure of exams)
The doors will be locked at 9:00 am. If you are not in at that time you will not be allowed to grade. If you leave, you will not be allowed back in before the test is over.
Participants or Guests may be asked to leave the Dojo until the exam is over without explanation from the panel members.
When it is all over: There will be a break while all participants and spectators will be asked to let the panel deliberate. This may be anywhere from 15 minutes to many hours depending on circumstances that happen during grading. The panel will inform the participants of a timeframe at the completion of the exam as to when they will announce the results.
After you leave: Drink, Stretch, and Eat.
